Custom Post Type: ADU

This is one of the Custom Post Types created by using the ACF (Advanced Custom Fields) plugin.

With the theme we’re using (it’s a child site based on the standard Twenty Twenty-Five theme provided by WordPress) we are able to create custom layouts based on the Custom Post Types we create.

Hover over ADUs to see the short menu for viewing the list of existing ADUs, adding an ADU, or updating Project Taxonomies. The Project Taxonomies are shared across all of the CPTs that use them (New Homes, Remodels, ADUs, Commercial) and provide a way to tag or categorize the Projects.

As mentioned, the only real difference between all of the CPTs is the standard button set at the bottom of the rendered page: Back to ADUs, and Tell Us About Your Project.

To create a new ADU post:
  • Click the Add New ADU menu option
  • Give the ADU page a title (this will also serve as the “slug”/url)
  • Choose a Featured Image (this represents the project on the Accessory Dwelling Units landing page)
  • Enter content in the Field Group beneath the page (see the documentation for the Project Fields field group for more information)
  • Add necessary gallery blocks to the page (floorplans, portfolio images)

Publish the Post

After the content and any galleries are added, the ADU post can be published. View the published page to ensure that it appears the way you want it to.

If the post is ready to be visible to visitors to the site, add the “ReadyToPost” tag to the ADU settings panel (on the right side of the editor). Waiting to apply this tag allows us to look at a page before it is linked on its landing page.

There are other tags that can be added to the Post, depending on the requirements of the page.

For example, some pages have a hero video instead of a static hero image. The way this was accomplished is by adding the “HideFeaturedImage” tag to the Post settings (it’s valid for all CPTs and page/post types). This tag hides the Featured image on the post, but not on the landing pages.

One last item to note: while it is not possible to assign an “order” value to the page during editing, it can be assigned in the dashboard list of ADUs. Because we list these projects with the newest first, the order number just needs to be greater than the order number of the last project.
