Just north of downtown Spokane and just north of Mead, lies the small town of Colbert. This peaceful, family-friendly town is known for its beautiful nature and wildlife as its nestled among lush trees. The residents of Colbert appreciate the quiet surroundings and dog-friendly atmosphere.
Did you know that the town was originally called Dragoon? A post office was established as Dragoon in 1890; the name was later changed to Colbert in 1902, after a local postmaster named Harry Colbert.

Recreation
Head to Bidwell Park for local recreation opportunities, where you’ll find a pool with water slides, a small playground, tennis, and basketball courts. There’s even a volleyball court complete with sand and two baseball fields.
You only have to drive 9 miles to enjoy camping at Dragoon Creek Campground. It’s a first-come, first-serve campground that doesn’t take advanced reservations, but it is situated along the creek, within a wooded area with a tree canopy offering shade and shelter from the summer heat.
For day use excursions, Bear Lake Regional Park offers a beautiful setting with a recreational lake for fishing and swimming. There are plenty of picnic tables and a couple shelters to enjoy the partially wooded lands. There’s a trail around the lake and a few offshoots that take you up into the trees to add distance to your walk.
Dining & Shopping
Colbert is served by Mead and Wandermere for dining and shopping.
Mead offers a local grocery store and a few fast food options to filly your tummy.
Wandermere is a bit larger and offers many different options in the way of restaurants, big box hardware stores, grocery stores, and Costco.
