This area was one of the first settled by Europeans in the Spokane area after the city was founded, and Corbin Park became the site of fairs from 1887. After railroad and mining magnate D. C. Corbin purchased and platted the area, Queen Anne, bungalow, and classic box-style homes were built around the park.
Once again, the size of the Emerson-Garfield area prevents it from being considered an urban village. However, the newly revised North Monroe Street provides a very walkable commercial center and the 11.5 acre historic Corbin Park offers a lush green space with mature trees, playgrounds, and walking trails.
