This neighborhood is known for its diverse land use, historic architecture, and proximity to downtown and the Spokane River. It’s located on the north bank of the Spokane River, just northwest of downtown. It features a mix of old and new housing, commercial districts, government buildings, the new Kendall Yards development, and the Spokane County Courthouse complex.
Urban Village
Like East Central, West Central is a larger area encompassing a couple of neighborhoods within its boundaries. Therefore, West Central in its entirety would not be considered an urban village itself, but its smaller neighborhoods would definitely fit this description, such as Kendall Yards, which is featured on its own page in this series.
Fine Dining
West Central has many options for the foodies in your life.

The Backyard Public House Billed as a Five Star Dive Bar by its owners, the menu has everything from appetizers (pretzels, nachos, wings), salads (wedge, chef, caesar), entrees (club, dip, Cuban, and Philly sandwiches, tacos, and noodles), burgers, sides (fries – sweet and regular, onion rings, mac salad, soup), desserts (regularly rotated), and house-made sauces. They offer a range of cocktails, beers in bottles or cans, mules, and wines. And for the designated driver in your party, there are some fantastic mocktails as well.
Clinkerdagger While technically not in West Central, it’s close enough. This destination restaurant has been serving its signature steakhouse meals to Spokane for over 50 years. We celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025. This is the place to bring out of town guests when you want to impress with great food and an impressive view of downtown and the Spokane River. It is inside the historic Spokane Flour Mill building, taking up 6,400 square feet. It is a restaurant intent on making your visit special and memorable.
